Hello everyone and welcome to Moon Pool, a sound stack that is devoted to listening to the body and listening to the land, listening within and listening without.
I believe listening is a really reflective process and on a recent recording trip I had kind of experienced this reflective process in really beautiful clarity.
It was January 6th and I was sitting beside this small pool of icy water and it was towards sunset. So it was kind of an amazing time. I was starting to feel the potency of the moon, the moon and the belly, the full moon rising. And the sun was breaking through the clouds and shining upon this pool.
And the pool had this glistening sound, the strips and drops and drips and drops. And it was interplaying between the elements and the moment. And then I felt it within my body and I felt every drop so viscerally. And it became this reflective portal, the sound itself. This invisible force yet, it was playing within me and around me simultaneously. And it was beautiful.
It's not the first time that I think I've ever experienced that kind of reflectivity in listening. But it was a moment. Where this project was really born.
The word Moon Pool came to me in that moment and right then and there, I made a land essence. With the spirits of that time and that place and that land and that water, that rock and the pitch pine and the Ravens that nested above all of it, kind of coming together in a confluence. That was belonging. That was deep listening. That was listening as a relationship. Listening as tending roots.
And so this project, this space, Moon Pool as a sub stack, is devoted to our listening process. It's devoted to listening to the land, it's devoted to listening within. And our experience of sound. It's also devoted to listening as a relationship tending process.
I think so much of our connection to the earth is actually through the sonic-somatic experience.
And I want to celebrate that. I want to highlight it. I want to uplift it in this space. And what I'm going to be sharing in moon pool is recordings of the forest, the voices of the forest. And I'm going to be sharing. Some of the very intentional listening practices and processes that have been shared with me.
And in this podcast, I'm going to be sharing channel transmissions from my time in the field, collaborating with these beings specifically, non-humxn kin.
I'm going to be sharing a lot of exploration and adventure and aspects of that time in the field with you. These channeled transmissions specifically are going to be. As I'm recording and in that process. I'll also be writing. And sharing pictures. And of course the recordings themselves.
I hope this becomes an evolving space for us to listen together. For not only me to share my experiences listening, but for you to share your experiences, listening to these voices, listening to these recordings, listening to this medicine and what it gives you.
Listening is not just about hearing. Hearing is registering the audio signals. It's the electrochemical experience that the body has and the brain organizing those signals and those impulses, but listening is about receptivity.
It's truly about being open and receiving what wants to be shared. And to being present with what's being shared. Present, not just in tracking something and tracing it as it's unfolding, but also the experience within yourself.
Some might call this perception. Some might call this connecting inwardly. There's a lot of ways that you can phrase that. But listening is reflective and I think that Moon Pool offers us a chance to explore that together as a community. This is yes, my artwork. Yes, all of my thoughts and ideas about sound and listening as an ecological spiritual practice. As a ritual. As a way for folks living in the diaspora towards healing. It's so much, it's a way of finding home. It's a way of living through ecological crisis and grief. There's so much to it. It's a way of remembering the energy that actually we share and how we can also tend that energy.
Yeah, there's a lot here. And I'm very excited to share it with you all because it's been a dream of mine to find a space that works well. To connect with my community on this stuff. But to also give it the quality of space and time that is true to what is being shared.
This year I'm going to be hosting some very specific things through this portal, through moon pool.
The first thing is, is that you'll get access to the recordings and the archive of recordings. These what I'm calling sound essences, because I think that's the closest way that I could describe what is being shared from the forest.
These recordings were made in a very intentional ritual process that is ongoing and it has been very carefully crafted collaboratively.
Each recording is essentially like making a land essence. We're making an essence with a particular elemental spirit, a particular sacred waterway. A particular very small patch of forest there's so, so specific and so nuanced and so subtle things coming through that are meant to be worked with intentionally and in full acknowledgement of spirit.
So I'm going to share these things in a way that invites you into intentional listening process and relationship with these beings.
And this podcast will hopefully. Give you some. Ideas of how things are kind of coming through you and how you're working with these recordings. These essences.
But I'm excited that these sound essences are going to have a home here in the archive can be built here. Around that archive we're going to be having community listening workshops so that we will be working with specific sound. Essences. Every month. This will be happening after March, essentially after my grant project premiers. But these listening workshops. We'll be where we. As a community, listen together and work with the sound essences. And then. We share. Our experiences with them. So it becomes this kind of body. Of collaborative research. That we're contributing to and we're building together around listening around sound.
For those who are founding members I'm going to be offering a very special workshop on field recording and collaborating with non-human kin. So if you've been interested in. Learning how to field record or the process of field recording and how to do so in a way that is consensual. That is in loving relationship with the land
I'm very, very excited for Moon Pool to exist. I'm excited to launch it a month from when this initial vision came through. I'm excited to share it on the full moon in Leo.
In the spirit of personal creativity and. In Aquarius season, the spirit of. Community
and I hope you enjoy hope that you share. I hope that you feel that Sonic web holding you and supporting you and feel closer to the land that you live on.
So, thank you so much for listening and. I'm looking forward to sharing more.
